1. What are the rules for tree felling in the UK?

However, if you live in a conservation area you will need to give your local authority six weeks’ notice of any intended works. And if any trees are under a Tree Preservation Order, you will need council permission for pruning or removal.

2. Can my neighbour cut down a tree in my garden?
Your neighbour is within their rights to cut parts of your tree without permission if the branches or roots cross the property boundary into their garden. However, they can’t go onto your property, cut the main trunk or trim any part of the tree beyond the property line.
If the tree is protected or if you’re in a conservation area, the rules surrounding tree preservation orders will likely still apply.
